Stephen’s Jigged Tailwater Leech Claret Barbless (SB)

This fly is a cheat code for fishing tailwaters and spring creeks. It was initially developed for a very specific tailwater in Oregon, where most of the water is less than 2-3 feet deep and the largest fish are held up in logs. Having a delicate fly on a stout hook was a must. Being so close to a lake, I needed to develop a very delicate fly that effectively imitated a leech. Rabbit and pine squirrel were materials that were far too heavy for the slow, shallow water where fish have lots of time to scrutinize your fly, which is how I landed on this design.
