Joel Crandall was introduced to fly fishing at 13 years old. It has since become a lifelong passion. In 2024, he joined the retail staff at The Fly Shop in Redding, California, and he hasn't looked back since. He strives to be a well-rounded angler. From tying intricate Intruder spey flies to simple, effective euro nymphs, he enjoys the entire process no matter the fly. Over time, he’s found that the best flies are often the simplest ones to tie. Every day on the water is an opportunity to learn something new. Whether it's discovering a productive pattern, refining a pattern, or better understanding fish behavior, he takes those lessons back to the vise and puts them to use on his next trip. When he’s not in the shop, you'll usually find him in one of two places: on the water or at my tying desk.
